How Much Does LASIK Cost?

How much does LASIK cost?

LASIK eye surgery offers undeniable benefits. And, for millions of people, it has dramatically improved their quality of life and delivered clear, healthy vision. However, before committing to LASIK eye surgery, people often have many questions about this life-changing procedure—most notably, “How much does LASIK cost?” Find out more about the price of LASIK, hear how we make our LASIK surgery cost accessible, and discover what you should expect when beginning your LASIK journey at Columbus Laser & Cataract Center.

Depending on the practice you visit, the cost of LASIK can vary. Fortunately, this vision correction surgery is generally more affordable than people realize. The average national LASIK costs are about $4,000 for both eyes, but we do our best to provide high-quality LASIK service and still beat our competitors’ prices.

How Much Does LASIK Cost?

Factors that can impact the cost of LASIK

At some practices, the cost of LASIK can vary based on your vision needs. It can also vary depending on factors not related to your eyes—like where you live or your surgeon’s experience. Because of this, be wary of extremely low-cost LASIK, as well as any surgeon who charges far more than what is typical in your area. These could be red flags that you are being overcharged or that there could be hidden fees that will substantially raise the cost of surgery down the road. At our practice, we are committed to providing you with honest, straightforward LASIK pricing—without hidden fees or gimmicks.

When looking at your LASIK eye surgery cost, consider what is included with the price estimate given to you by a practice. While some may charge for consultations, follow-up appointments, or a LASIK enhancement separately, others may have some or all of those costs included with your initial surgery pricing. If you are ever unsure about the price of any service, treatment, or appointment, always ask the practice for clarity. They should be happy to provide information about all costs transparently.

Affording LASIK

At our practice, we will help you achieve the health and vision correction you deserve through LASIK, without extensive costs. Our dedicated team is happy to talk with you about your out-of-pocket LASIK cost as well as financing, savings plans, discounts, and insurance—no question is too big or too small.

Insurance and LASIK surgery cost

Because LASIK is considered an elective procedure, it is not covered by most insurances. However, some insurance plans do provide partial coverage, so be sure to contact your provider to determine any benefits and pricing. Post-insurance LASIK prices will differ greatly depending on your coverage level or insurance provider. Fortunately, even if you are not covered for LASIK, we offer several flexible options to make your surgery cost affordable. At our practice, we aim to improve as many patients’ lives as we can by making LASIK financially accessible.

Financing and savings plans for LASIK

For patients who qualify, we are proud to offer LASIK financing through the CareCredit® health credit card as well as in-house financing with monthly payments as low as $150. With CareCredit®, you can finance your LASIK surgery with a low monthly cost, no annual fees, and zero or low interest rates. Now you can begin your journey to clearer vision—while enjoying flexible payment options. We also accept three savings plans: Vision Service Plan, Total Vision Services, and Eye Care Plan of America. These plans offer discounts on many popular treatments, like LASIK.

Affording LASIK
The first steps in your LASIK journey

The first steps in your LASIK journey

If you have read about the cost of LASIK eye surgery and are still interested, the next step is finding a trustworthy, qualified, and experienced surgeon. Do not make the mistake of choosing a surgeon only based on price shopping—your vision is too important. Remember, LASIK is an advanced eye surgery with potential risks and side effects if performed improperly.

Selecting your surgeon for laser eye surgery

Always thoroughly research any surgeon you are considering for your LASIK needs. Evaluate their background and credentials, learn about their continuing education, and meet with the surgeon to see if they are a good match for you. When it comes to LASIK, it is crucial that you feel comfortable and trust your surgeon as you embark on this life-changing journey.

At Columbus Laser & Cataract Center, we take surgical skill, experience, and expertise seriously. In fact, we have proudly been voted Columbus’ #1 Best LASIK Surgery Practice by our many happy patients. Our talented eye surgeons, Dr. Beran and Dr. Weber, have performed this procedure thousands of times with expert skill. Together, they work alongside our staff that has over 175 years of combined experience. LASIK is a life-changing investment in yourself. And, at the end of the day, you should only trust your vision to experts.

Your LASIK experience at Columbus Laser & Cataract Center

Since not everyone will be a good candidate for LASIK, it is important that you visit our experts for a consultation. This free appointment will help us get to know you, your eyes, and your vision needs. During this time, we will gather a complete health history, evaluate your eyes and refractive errors comprehensively, and develop a LASIK plan for you. The thorough pre-surgery testing included with our care ensures that your laser eye surgery results are the best possible. Without proper pre-surgery evaluations, you may receive LASIK when it is not ideal for your eyes, prescription, or health.

Is LASIK right for me?

People express interest in LASIK for many reasons. Whether you want to be glasses free or have been recommended LASIK to treat a refractive error more thoroughly, like astigmatism, you may be a good candidate for this laser eye surgery. There are several benefits to choosing LASIK over wearing glasses or contacts. For instance, after LASIK, you will no longer need to worry about:

LASIK permanently corrects refractive errors

LASIK permanently corrects refractive errors based on a patient’s prescription and eyes at the time of surgery. Because of this, LASIK is best for patients who have a stable eye prescription. This vision correction surgery is suitable for those aged 18 or older—though some people may need to wait a few years until their prescription becomes more stable.

Importantly, all people—whether they have had LASIK or not—will experience age-related vision changes, like presbyopia or developing cataracts. This is why we recommend that any patient who is interested in LASIK come in for a free consultation whenever they are first interested in surgery. The earlier you visit and undergo LASIK, the longer you will be able to enjoy improved sight before natural, age-related changes begin to occur.

If LASIK is not right for you:

Though LASIK is a life-changing procedure, not everyone is an ideal candidate. The anatomy of your eye, your prescription strength, and preexisting conditions may make you ineligible for LASIK or laser eye surgery altogether. For instance, since LASIK eye surgery involves the creation of a flap in the cornea, it is not ideal for those with thin corneas. Fortunately, those who are not eligible for LASIK may have alternatives. In these cases, options like Advanced Surface Treatment (AST) may be a better choice, which provides equal levels of vision correction.

If we recommend AST for you, our team will be happy to thoroughly discuss payment, insurance, and surgery cost for this procedure as well. Like LASIK, most insurance companies consider AST an elective surgery that is not covered. However, you may be eligible for partial coverage depending on your insurance provider. As always, we recommend that you speak to your provider and our team if you have any questions regarding the out-of-pocket price or what is included with your LASIK or AST surgery.

If LASIK is not right for you

What should you expect from LASIK surgery?

LASIK is a quick surgery (taking approximately 10 to 15 minutes per eye) with a relatively short and mild recovery time. During the LASIK procedure, our surgeons create a flap in the cornea, correct the refractive error using state-of-the-art lasers, and replace the flap. After your LASIK surgery, you may experience some itchiness as you initially recover. Fortunately, recovery is generally mild, and patients can return to most activities after only a day or two. You will need to visit us for a follow-up appointment, where we will make sure that you are recovering well from LASIK and provide any additional instructions.

While there is certainly an initial cost and investment with LASIK surgery, LASIK results are life changing. In fact, hundreds of our patients have left reviews stating the clear benefits of investing in LASIK for themselves. Read some of their testimonials below to see why so many people have trusted their LASIK eye surgery to our experts, and why they love their vision thanks to LASIK.

“Wow. I was a little nervous for the first cataract surgery. You know, the unknown. The staff was wonderfully reassuring and the experience was amazing. 24 hours after surgery, I could see perfectly with the operated on eye. Then, knowing the procedure was painless I went back and enjoyed the experience on the second eye 3 weeks later. 24 hours later that eye was perfect and clear as well. My vision is better than I had hoped. Dr. Beran and all of the Staff are wonderfully skilled.”

5-Star Review

“I had the absolute best experience here! I’ve been wanting to get LASIK forever and every single employee here was so knowledgeable about all of my options. They made me feel very comfortable and safe which is obviously important when it comes to any surgery. The procedure itself was quick and easy. They are very transparent with what they are doing and everyone was so excited on my behalf of how much better day-to-day life would be post-surgery. The price was competitive & they have multiple zero-interest financing options that help make it affordable. If you are thinking of LASIK you should talk to their staff, definitely the best option in the greater Columbus area.”

“Dr. Weber performed cataract surgery on my left eye. Being a big chicken I was nervous. No worries. The staff was all very kind and supportive and the anesthesia was great. I felt very little discomfort and remember very little about the procedure. I had the corrective lens which is not covered by Medicare. The next day I went back for my follow up appointment. They removed the protective clear plastic apparatus. I could see perfectly without glasses. Can’t wait to have the right eye corrected!”
