Dr. Weber Introduces Revolutionary New Technology: The AcrySof® IQ Vivity® Intraocular Lens

Jan 20, 2021

Dr. Weber recently became the first local surgeon to perform a trailblazing new medical procedure. For the first time here in the city of Columbus, Dr. Weber utilized an innovative new technology known as the Vivity lens when performing a cataract removal surgery. The Vivity lens is an absolute game changer in the world of eyecare, offering better patient outcomes than ever before.

How does cataract removal work?

Cataract removal is the most commonly performed surgery in the United States, affecting approximately three million people each and every year. In fact, half of all Americans develop a cataract by the time they turn 80. The surgery is more than 98 percent effective, and most patients return to their normal within a mere 24 hours, often with better vision than they’ve experienced in years.

This common medical procedure involves the extraction of a lens that has been clouded by a cataract, which blocks light from passing through and makes it more difficult to see. The surgery also includes the implementation of a new artificial lens. Over the years, the ophthalmology community has taken major strides in the improvement of these artificial lenses, and our own Dr. Aaron is on the cutting edge of these developments.

What makes the Vivity different than other forms of artificial lenses?

In contrast to other forms of artificial lenses, the Vivity intraocular lens is non-diffractive. This means that, instead of rings, the Vivity lens uses a smooth surface pattern, creating an extended range of vision. This trailblazing lens is the first to enable patients to see clearly, both near and far, as well as provide seamless vision at all distances in between. Most importantly, the Vivity lens is far less likely to create glare, halos, or starbursts in dim light or nighttime conditions. This marks a revolutionary shift in technology, as Vivity prevents the visual aberrations and disturbances that were once common with artificial lenses.

The Vivity premium lens even has X-WAVE™ technology that protects your eyes from the sun’s UV rays and damaging blue light from digital devices.
